Buoyancy or Up thrust

BUOYANCY or UP THRUST:  The tendency of a liquid to exert an upward force on an object immersed in it is called buoyancy. Liquid pressure is measured with manometer. A liquid exerts pressure in all directions i.e. downward, upward and sideways. The pressure is the same in all directions at the same depth. Pressure increases with depth. From all the above examples, we conclude that the objects appear to be less heavy when submerged in water than they are in air. It is due to the fact that the water exerts an upward force on them.

In fact, every liquid exerts an upwards force on the objects immersed in it. The tendency of a liquid to exert an upward force or an object placed in it, is called buoyancy. And thus, the upward force acting on an object immersed in a liquid is called buoyant force. In other words, the buoyant force is also known as up thrust.
